A Happy Birthday is a play based on the documentary Grey Gardens from 1976 by Albert and David Maysles. The film zooms in on the daily life of two excentric aristocratic women living in a decrepit mansion with twenty-eight rooms on 3rd West Avenue in the prosperous Georgica Pond neighborhood, East Hampton, New York. They lived ‘stylishly’ in filthy circumstances and near total isolation.
